Guide

Everything you need to get the most out of Flipo. A five-minute read.

Quick start

Install Flipo. Its icon appears in the tray next to the clock.
Open any folder and start dragging a file.
Keep the mouse button down and hold Shift. A menu appears around the cursor.
Move over a format and release. The new file appears next to the original.

Change any key under “Keys & gestures” in settings.

Converting

The Shift menu adapts to the file type. Photos get JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF and other image formats; videos get MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM, GIF and an “Audio” sector that saves the soundtrack as MP3.

If you drag several files of different types, Flipo shows only the formats that fit all of them.

Tools

Compress makes the file lighter without changing its format. Strength is set under “Quality”.
Shrink halves an image; Max 1920 px limits the long side.
Rotate, Flip, Square and B&W work on photos and images.
Trim for video and audio opens a small window to pick the start and end.
Text recognises writing in an image and puts it on the clipboard and into a .txt file.
No metadata removes location, camera model and capture date.

Actions

The Alt menu doesn't convert anything. It handles the file itself: copy it or its path, move it to a favourite folder, rename it by date, zip it, or send it through the Windows share sheet.

Magic folders

Open Flipo settings, then “Magic folders”.
Click “Add folder” and pick one.
Set a rule (which format becomes what) or choose a preset.

Flipo only handles new files and waits until a download or copy has finished. Files already in the folder stay as they are.

Presets

A preset is a format plus settings: quality, maximum size, metadata removal. For example “JPG 80%, up to 1920 px, no metadata”. Each preset becomes its own menu sector and can be used in a magic folder rule.

Where files go

Next to the original by default. If a file with that name exists, Flipo adds a number, like photo (2).jpg, and never overwrites anything. You can pick one shared output folder in settings.

Troubleshooting

The menu doesn't appear. Check that the Flipo icon is in the tray. If the app you're dragging from runs as administrator, run Flipo that way too.
No sectors for documents. Install LibreOffice under “Add-ons”.
A key clashes with another app. Assign a different one under “Keys & gestures”.
Antivirus complains. New apps sometimes get false positives. Only download Flipo from this site.
